Steven R. Belmain

Holds a PhD in ecology from the University of London and current Professorial Chair in Ecology at the Natural Resources Institute. His research interests include ecosystem services, ecological pest management, agroecology and ecological engineering, biodiversity conservation, agro-ecological intensification, farmer research networks and farmer-participatory research. As Principal Investigator, he has led more than a dozen large multi-disciplinary, multi-country R&D projects with funding from various European Commission programmes. He has published more than 100 publications with an i10-index of 38 with a 5-year citation rate of over 1000. He has nearly 20 years’ experience working in collaboration with scientists and farmers from many countries and providing educational development from PhD supervision through to on-the-job capacity building. He is a course leader for the university’s MBiol degree and lectures on several taught Master’s programmes. He is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society, coordinating member of the International Society of Zoological Sciences, Associate Editor for the journal Wildlife Research and on the editorial board for Biopesticides International.
